Sensei Colin Niland
Gyokushin Ryu Aikido Instructors Perth
Having started my martial Arts journey over 30 years ago it has always been one of my goals to start a school which blended all of the traditional arts into one. Having first trained in Judo at Coventry Judo club as a boy then over the years studying Karate (Tang Soo Do), Kickboxing and Tae Kwon Do I have always been driven to develop myself further.
After moving to Australia from the UK I continued to train in Tae Kwon Do and 10 years ago started training in Yoseikan Aikido.
In 2018 I received the rank of Nidan and also my teachers certification from Washizu Sensei , after training and grading with Sensei Murat Atkas at Yamato Aikido . I am also a proud member of the Australian Gyokushin Ryu Aikido Federation .
Bringing all of these arts together in a Traditional Budo style, students will have the chance to learn Kicking, Striking, Grappling, throwing, chokes and weapons with an emphasis towards self-defence and life skills.
To ensure the best for our Students my studies still continue with regular training in Tae Kwon Do and Aikido.
Training at OMMA Budo will help students to form a positive and confident approach to life without the need for ego or aggression.
I look forward to you joining us on your own Journey
Sensei Amanda Galhardo
Open Mat Martial Arts Instructor Perth
I was a late starter to martial arts, not beginning until my mid-twenties. I’ve always enjoyed fitness competing in many different sports as I grew up. On a whim, I decided to try a freestyle kickboxing class and from the very first day I was hooked.
The enjoyment of learning to move, punch and kick led me to gaining a black singlet in kickboxing.
When taekwondo classes became available at my club I jumped at the chance to learn something new and after many hours of training managed to attain my 1st Dan black belt.
It was learning taekwondo that I learned to love self-defence techniques, especially figuring out what worked for me and what could be used by a woman of my size under stressful situations. I’m passionate about women being able to defend themselves and hope to help other women realise their potential to be fantastic martial artists.
Sensei Brad Palmer
Gyokushin Ryu Aikido Instructor Tasmania
I run the Penguin Budo dojo in Tasmania which is part of the OMMA group offering traditional Aikido classes in North West Tasmania.
I received my Shodan in Yoseikan Aikido 2016, and my Nidan from Washizu Sensei in 2018.
Training with Sensei Niland and Open Mat Martial Arts has given me a great mix of tradition martial arts and self defense skills. Mixing this with experience in coaching a variety of sports at junior and senior levels helps me deliver a martial arts class that is enjoyable for students of all ages.
